Patrick Skerrett is acting First Opinion editor while Torie Bosch is on leave. Pat joined STAT at its founding in 2015 and served as First Opinion editor until his retirement in March 2023. Prior to STAT, he was executive editor of Harvard Health Publications, the consumer publishing division of Harvard Medical School. He is the coauthor of “Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy: The Harvard Medical School Guide to Healthy Eating” and other books. He has also worked as a high school science teacher and as a biologist studying fruit-eating bats. Pat earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Northwestern University and a master's in biology from Washington University in St. Louis.
